Risk 1 and Risk 2 explained — how Swedish risk training works

Updated July 2026

Risk training is mandatory for a Swedish B licence and has two parts: Risk 1 and Risk 2. Both must be passed and still valid when you take your tests. Here is what they involve — and the order to take them in.

Risk 1 — ”riskettan” Risk 1 is a theory course about alcohol, drugs, tiredness and other behaviours that raise risk in traffic. It takes about three hours and is done in a group. You can book [Risk 1 with us](/kurser) in Sollentuna.

Risk 2 — the skid pan (”halkbanan”) Risk 2 is the practical part — you drive on a slippery track and feel how the car behaves at different speeds. It takes place at a dedicated facility (for example Gillinge outside Stockholm). We help you book it at the right point in your training — in an automatic car.

In what order? - Do Risk 1 early — it requires no driving skills. - Do Risk 2 late in your training, once you drive confidently at higher speeds. Your instructor will tell you when you are ready. - Both parts must be valid when you take the theory and driving tests.

What if I skip one? Without passed Risk 1 and Risk 2 you are not allowed to take the driving test. Plan them in good time — especially Risk 2, where slots can run out in high season.
